Guttenberg, IA is Big on Beauty and Recreation!
Come for a weekend and you may end up staying for a lifetime. There is so much more to do in Guttenberg, IA than meets the eye. Guttenberg is a slice of heaven for those who love the outdoors. Reconnect with nature. Bring your boat and spend your days on the river fishing, water-skiing or just sunning yourself on the beach. No boat? Rent one, or, take your fishing pole and fish off the shore. Do you like a challenge? Hike the many beautiful hills of our river valley. Or, bring your family and camping gear and spend some time at one of the many campgrounds.
Only here for a day? Visit Lock and Dam #10 and watch the mechanics of a barge locking through followed by a visit to the Lockmaster’s House Heritage Museum and the Guttenberg Fish Hatchery and Aquarium. Check out the local history with a drive through town. Take notice of the many limestone buildings built by German immigrants in the mid-to-late 19th century. Many of these buildings are on the National Historic Registry. Then, have lunch at one of our local restaurants or try the local wine. If you have time, bring your clubs and play a round at the beautiful Guttenberg Golf & Country Club. Finally, it wouldn’t be right to head home without an ice cream cone and a stroll along our 2 mile river walk.
You’ll want to come back!
